Good Eggs vs. Bad Eggs

How do you know if you've got a good egg? Eggs scare me. No joke, I don't like surprises! I'm always afraid I'm going to find something I don't want to inside of one. Is that weird? My Mom tells me, "you would KNOW if an egg was bad"! Honestly, I would rather not find out after cracking it. Typically they're good for about three weeks after you buy them. Yes you can go by the expiration date, but if you don't have the carton on hand..here is a handy tip!

You could find out how fresh an egg is by dropping it into a bowl of water.
-If it sinks... it's good.
-If it sinks but stands straight up on its point...it's good but not for much longer.
-If it floats...it's a bad egg...get rid of that sucker.

  1. This is so incredibly helpful and awesome. Rob is an egg lover and he always goes by the expiration date but here in the South, we get a lot of yard eggs/farm eggs. Thanks for sharing this!!

  6. I read this a long time ago in a book about some missionaries for whom spoiled eggs were a real problem! My Mom has cracked open a rotten egg more than once, so she just takes the strategy of cracking all of her eggs into a separate bowl before mixing them with anything--just in case in order to not waste ingredients. Since I live in America I usually decide to just 'risk it' with my eggs! :P

  7. One time when my husband was a kid, he bought some organic farm fresh eggs from a roadside stand. He hard boiled them and gave them to the boys to eat. My husband's brother bit into one and started spitting out a mouthful of feathers!!! Ew.
