I'm a Mom!

Can you believe it - because I still can't!?! If you have been following along, you know SHE IS HERE! Thanks a bunch to Mal for updating my page the other day! I plan to do a full birth story post as soon as I can process my thoughts, I promise! For now, I thought I'd give you all a little update on how things are going at home with our precious little lady Ella Rose!
This adorable little face stole my heart the second I was able to lay my eyes on her! She is such a darling, I melt when she looks up at me...especially while I'm breastfeeding her! Speaking of melting...
The Hubs has been incredible with her! Believe me, this doesn't surprise me at all. I knew Stephen would be a wonderful father, but seeing him in action makes me love him a thousand times more, if that was even possible!

Needless to say, things have been VERY different around here! We are all still adjusting. Life has been very different as a family of three. It's so strange hearing Stephen talking to someone from the other room. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that another person lives here! It's like I have to pinch myself! Ella is finally here, she is perfect, and she is all ours....love it!
I was so happy to leave the hospital after three days there (more on that another time). Ella is doing well! She is healthy, and I'd like to think she is happy and cozy in her new home. In the short time we have been home, we have had some good days and nights...and some not so great ones! I know that is just the way it is going to be. From Monday night all the way through Tuesday evening she was quite the little handful. My poor baby was extremely fussy, and crying non-stop. No matter what we did she was inconsolable! I'm talking high pitched velociraptor screeching (or what I imagine a velociraptor would sound like). The only time she wasn't crying was when I was feeding her.
Everyone keeps telling me to nap when she naps, well the key is that she needs to nap in order for that to happen (she took one half hour long nap yesterday before Daddy came home, that's it)! Yesterday was Stephen's first day back to work and he came home early around 3:30 because I was having a slight emotional breakdown after HOURS of not being able to soothe her (and an incident which involved poop EVERYWHERE).  Of course when Daddy came home, she fell asleep on his lap for two and a half hours. She is definitely a Daddy's Girl!!!

It's a pretty crummy feeling watching your child in distress and not being able to figure out what's wrong, and how to make it better! Like I said, I'm breastfeeding and I'm not sure if there is something I'm eating that is upsetting her tummy, or if I'm not burping her well enough (she isn't much of a "burper"). The lactation nurses and pediatrician say we are doing everything right and that her little body is just adjusting to life outside the womb. If anyone has any tips on how to soothe a fussy baby... I'm WIDE open to suggestions. We did give her Mylicon drops for her gassy belly, and it seemed to have done the trick!

Luckily we had a GREAT night last night, and no joke- this morning has been going exactly the way I had envisioned mornings at home with my girl would be for the past 9 months. Cuddles, Disney movies, and naps...with a feeding every 2-3 hours.  Life is good!

I am LOVING every second of motherhood! Wish us luck while Daddy is at work, I would like him to make it through the entire day! Seriously, how precious is this face?!? Love my little Ella Rose!
When she was born, she was 5 lbs. 13 oz., and she was 5 lbs. 10 oz. when we took her home. At her first pediatrician appointment on Monday, she gained an ounce! We meet with the pediatrician again tomorrow to see how much more she has gained!

I hope you are all having a lovely Wednesday...we sure are over here!

  2. I know this is going to sound strange, but it may be something you are wearing that is perfumed/scented. My daughter screamed bloody murder for 5 months whenever my husband held her until we figured out it was his cologne. He didn't bathe in it or anything, but babies have such sensitive senses. He stopped wearing it and she became a happy baby. I had a friend who had the same issue and I told her maybe it was her husband's cologne, sure enough, it was!

Either way, she is adorable :) Congratulations!!

  7. If you think she's gassy, this is a good way to hold her to make her feel better: http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq111/chlxee/null_zps99c2974b.jpg. Also, whispering "shhh" over and over is supposed to be really soothing for them. Hope that helps! It's terrible having to hear them cry and not being able to help! :( I'm so glad you're enjoying motherhood! That whole first month you're like half asleep the entire time. :P

  8. Congratulations, she's beautiful! Finn is very good but when he is inconsolable (usually because he's tired and can't get to sleep no matter what) we put him in the Moby Wrap and in a minute he passes right out! If you have a wrap I'd give it a try, it can't hurt. Good luck momma!

  12. Congrats! She is adorable! Sounds like you have got the breast feeding down pat if she is already gaining weight. With my first, we struggled with his weight for the first couple of weeks until my milk supply could keep up. You both seem to be naturals. Do you have a miracle blanket? I swear by this swaddle blanket. I had 3-4 because I never wanted to be without a clean one! ;). I fully believe the miracle blanket is what helped my babies sleep. Might be worth a try?

  13. She is absolutely beautiful! I know when I first started breastfeeding my son had some gas issues. I have had to give up cow's milk. (Not like I needed the ice cream anyways ;))So you might check and see if that works. Also, he loved to be swaddled in the SwaddleMe blankets (Wal-Mart). Those are just a few suggestions. Congrats, again!

  25. So.. here's my two cents. My BFF went through this with her little guy about five months ago. As far as the burping: I know that she is just a little peanut and you want to be extra special gentle with her but you can't break her. Be sure that you are stretching her body out after feeding her, if you have to stand up with her, stretching out her torso. Pat her back from the bottom of it up.. as if you are working the air out. A lot of times, when the nurses tell you to sit the babies on your lap, facing outwards, their bodies don't get stretched so the air doesn't "prepare" itself to be patted or pushed out. When Ella isn't able to be consoled, possibly try finding a butt pat that she likes or maybe a certain head rub. As far as your diet, maybe try some plain rice in your diet and some chicken. My friend found that she couldn't eat many spices and much meat at all.. her son was bothered by a lot of fruit and veggies due to gases! XOXO
